Transition
Foundation Transition
At Albion North Primary School, we offer a comprehensive transition program to support students beginning Foundation (Prep). Our pre-prep students participate in weekly two-hour transition sessions with our Foundation teacher throughout Terms 3 and 4.
These sessions introduce early literacy and numeracy concepts, with a focus on phonemic awareness, phonological awareness, phonics, as well as number recognition and counting. Beyond academic skills, the program is designed to build confidence, foster trust, and help students form friendships while becoming familiar with their new school environment.
Our transition program provides a nurturing and supportive start, helping students feel comfortable and excited as they begin their educational journey at Albion North.
All new Foundation students are provided with an I’m Ready to Learn at ANPS t-shirt, a school bag, school hat, stationary and bookpack, ready to begin their journey as a primary school student.
Secondary School Transition
At Albion North Primary School, we are committed to supporting a smooth and confident transition for our Year 6 students as they prepare for secondary school. The placement process is guided by the Department of Education’s statewide transition policy, which includes a clearly defined timeline for applying to government secondary schools across Victoria.
Each year, families receive a Year 6 to Year 7 Transition Information Pack, outlining key dates and steps in the application process. This typically begins in Term 2, with final placement offers made by the end of Term 3. Our school provides guidance and support throughout this process, including assistance with forms and communication with secondary schools.
To further support our students, we partner with local network secondary schools to offer information sessions, school tours, and transition visits. These opportunities allow students to become familiar with secondary school environments, ask questions, and build confidence as they prepare for this exciting next step in their educational journey.
For more information about the transition process, families are encouraged to contact the school office on 9312 5900.
